One of the things i truly love when writing about the cities we have data-centers in, is writing about the ones I've been to, and I've been to Tampa. Located on the western coast of the state of Florida, Tampa serves as the county seat for Hillsborough County. with a population of approximately 382,000 people, Tampa is the center of the area known as the "Tampa Bay Area" encompassing a 4 county area with a population of about 3 million residents and if you add Sarasota, you approach a population of almost 4 million people who call that area of the country home. Statistically this area is the second largest metropolitan area in the state and the 4th largest in the southeastern region of the country.
Tampa is a tourist paradise in that no matter what you want, you can find almost anything in the Tampa Bay area (except snow capped mountains). From Fishing, to pristine beaches, from Spanish war forts to beautiful state parks, from many different varieties of food, to museums and theater, there's a world of things to do in the Tampa Bay Area. Tampa Bay it's self is also home to some manatees who aren't shy about watching people while being watched. Manatees can grow to a whopping 1350 lbs, and at sea were sometimes mistaken for mermaids by sailors....
Another item that history buffs will want to see is "Egmont Key", while being a relatively small island, Egmont Key (just across the waterway from Fort DeSoto Park) is packed with History and Beauty, for over 150 years the lighthouse there has shown travelers on the water the entrance to Tampa Bay, and is a wildlife refuge as well. This only adds to the further use of the island as a point of defense during the Spanish-American war. Eggmont key still has the remains of the old Batteries on the west side, and at the time of my last trip, there were 3 of them remaining un-submerged while two others are now submerged because of time. The "big guns"(coastal mortars) have been removed from the island, but going inside one of the batteries is still an education, and standing on top of one allows the viewer and almost unobstructed 360 degree view of the island.
